Why I love Sunday School

I started attending the Christian Science Sunday School when I was two and a half years old. In Sunday School, I learn about God and how to rely on God for healing. Since childhood, I have experienced numerous healings by praying and understanding more about God. I would like to share some of them.

When I was three years old, our family was returning home from church when I accidentally opened the door of the car and fell onto the road while the car was still moving. But when the car stopped and my mother ran to get me, she saw that I was perfectly fine. Even at the age of three, I had already learned that God is always protecting me and taking care of me, and I knew this was true.

What I’ve learned in Sunday School has also helped me in my regular school.

What I’ve learned in Sunday School has also helped me in my regular school. For instance, I was having trouble with one of my friends. Whenever she was around, I found myself getting irritated and we would get in fights. Then I decided to discuss this issue with my Sunday School teacher, and she shared this passage with me from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry” (p. 63). We talked about what this meant: that my friend and I were not two personalities in conflict, but the children of God, expressing God’s beautiful qualities. I prayed with these ideas.

After that, whenever I saw my friend, I looked for her good, God-given qualities, instead of focusing on her human flaws. I also tried to be more loving by listening to her and trying to understand her perspective, instead of just forcing my opinions on her. Eventually, we became really good friends and were able to understand each other’s viewpoints.

Another healing I had happened after my school organized many lectures on menstrual cycles for all female students. These lectures were supposed to help us understand the development of the female body and what to expect during our period, including many negative symptoms. After attending the lectures, I, too, began experiencing these symptoms, but after praying and having a Christian Science practitioner pray for me, I was completely healed and wrote about my healing here. I shared this testimony with some of my fellow students, and they told me that after reading the healing, they also began experiencing pain-free periods.

A more recent healing I had was when I began losing some of my hair, which had also happened to my older sister. I talked to a practitioner, and she reminded me of this idea from Science and Health: “The only power of evil is to destroy itself. It can never destroy one iota of good” (p. 186).

I feel blessed that I am a Sunday School student.

I knew from attending Sunday School that an idea like that wasn’t just a nice thought. It was the truth. This truth was telling me that nothing bad could ever touch me, because I am spiritual. So everything good about me, including my health and my beauty, must be untouched and intact. My fear of the problem vanished immediately, and after a few days I was completely healed.

I feel blessed that I am a Sunday School student and that each week I get to learn more about the practical truth of Christian Science, which is really helping me in my life.
