Ripples

Does it ever happen to you, too?

Do you find yourself walking about happily . . .
And then some ugly ripple
Of thought passes by and leaves a
Doom-filled worry on your doorstep?

Whence come these interlopers—
Bad news from last night?
Gossip from a neighbor?
An unwanted medical prediction?
A loved one’s passing?

Well, push back, O child of God, push back!
It’s a dream. These are but material beliefs, lies, false news.
With God’s help, we can send them away!
We don’t have to listen to them, need not collect them.
We can’t allow them to tarry. Our privilege is to see them pass.

And pass they will, as we allow God’s goodness, His ever-present allness,
His love, to fill our thought, to give us strength, to show us His ideas,
And to reveal the perfect tranquility where ripples never reach us.

O Father-Mother God, make us know impervious, serene peace
And the powerful light that is always shining. And now that error has been
Brushed away, we can feel and see!
