The picnic

Originally published in the 1976 pamphlet titled “God is right here”

One hot summer day four young friends raced along together on their bikes. They were looking forward to a picnic in Rock Creek Park. Their mothers were to meet them with lunch baskets full of all kinds of goodies.

Carl, Karen, and Marc were riding their own bikes. But Barb was riding a bike loaned to her by her friend Jan just for the day of the picnic.

After pedaling up one very long hill, the four were happy to see a sign that said, "Drinking Water." Bikes were parked, and they climbed the steep bank to the spring. How good the cold sparkling water tasted! A short rest and all were ready to go back down the steep hill.
