Jesus the Christ and his disciples

Originally published in the December 1, 1889 issue of the Christian Science Series (Vol. 1, No. 15)

In the foregoing readings we have sought to understand the one, all-pervading Spirit, Good, the Power that made and governs all, and His true ideal creation. Now, we will consider the one, perfect manifestation of this Divine Principle, by whom he is made known to men; Jesus, the Christ (1).

As the title is of so much more importance and significance than the simple, every-day name, we will consider that first.

"The Christ is the Principle of the mortal man Jesus. It is this Principle that is his real, divine nature" (Science and Health ). He is the Truth made manifest. Truth without expression is merely an abstraction. Expression is necessary for its apprehension. The Christ is the complete and perfect expression of Truth, or God. Herein lies the force of his declaration of oneness with the Father (2, 3). How long has he existed? (4, 5.) The Infinite hath no beginning. This word "beginning" is employed to signify the first, that is, the eternal verity and unity of God, the universe and man" (Science and Health ).
