Meeting my real employer
Originally appeared on spirituality.com
One of my favorite synonyms for God is Mind. He is the “all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise” (Science and Health, p. 587). But I was always puzzled by part of the definition of “Mind” in Science and Health, which concludes, “Deity, which outlines but is not outlined” (p. 591). I always heard this line being quoted by one of my church mates. I wondered, how come the line contains a negation: “... but is not outlined”? After I’d given thought to this, it came to me to listen and understand the inspiration behind this line.
Now, I have felt its demonstration in my career. After my college graduation in April 2004, I energetically and eagerly aspired to have a job. During my applications, I remembered what my Sunday School teachers had taught me: that God is my real employer; thus, each of His children has a niche to fill.
After several months, I was employed as a part-time English tutor in an international Korean school here in our city in the Philippines. It was so much fun to be teaching! I appreciated how much parents supported the education of their children. After the end of my contract, I began looking for other work as an instructor. As I applied for various jobs, a lot of suggestions such as feelings of shyness or doubts about my competence, tempted me. But I held on to the truth about man as the expression of God. All the lessons I had learned from Sunday School were my armor. I prayed to understand my identity as an image and manifestation of God.
