No, no or yes, yes?

A cage was the only home our new kittens had known before we rescued them from an animal shelter. As sister and brother, Sassy and Sam had become so thoroughly bonded during their two-month captivity that a note had been fixed to their cage asking that they not be separated.

We took them home in a pet carrier, placed it on the family room floor, and opened the door. A moment or two passed as they sat side by side looking out into the new open space they had been given. Then the fireworks began.

For at least two hours they chased each other around the room, jumping on and off the furniture and tumbling over each other as they skidded around corners. Their joyful exuberance reminded us of the story in the Bible when Peter and John encountered a man asking for alms at the gate of the temple called Beautiful. The Christ-spirit expressed by these two disciples released the man from the imprisoning grasp of lameness. He was healed and entered the temple with them leaping and praising God.
