A new model for financial security

Originally appeared on spirituality.com

Employee pension plans evaporate. Social programs fall increasingly short. Money has to be stretched to cover more and more things. Something’s not working.

I don’t think it’s overgeneralizing to say that people want to feel secure—not just physically, but financially as well. I know I sure do. And my friends and neighbors sure do. But so many people that I talk to feel like financial security is unattainable.

I can appreciate these sentiments. But I’ve also found that prayer gives me confidence far greater than a financial forecast of the stock market. It informs my understanding of the role God plays in caring for His creation. In fact, this confidence in God encourages me with regard to both my immediate family’s situation and humanity’s at large. It tells me that there’s a different model that will work for all of us.
