My prayer to "dwell in the land of safety"

Safety: we all want it for ourselves, and for our friends and family. And we also know about the need to take precautions. There are some precautions I take on a daily basis, right within my home—like making sure the garage door is closed or unplugging electrical appliances after use. But there is another precaution, another safety measure, that I also take: prayer.

Prayer, as a safety measure, could be called prayer for preventive purposes. In other words, I like to pray before something untoward happens. Not only does this often prevent or circumvent danger, it also prepares me to meet it safely if I am confronted with something unexpected.

When I started praying about safety this way, I used to just petition God to keep me, and my family, safe. I still do that, but I’m also learning to depend more on God’s laws. For instance, when I ask God to keep our children safe, I try to spiritually understand that they are already God’s children, that He created them, that they already dwell with Him in His care, and that He sustains and watches over them.
