Prayer for government

Thomas Mitchinson, C.S.

In this chat Tim notes that many governments seem to be experiencing gridlock, but declares that prayer can break any gridlock. Then he outlines three things that are necessary for effective prayer for government:

  • humility

  • a willingness to change one's opinion of things

  • a desire to listen for God's creative ideas.

As Tim answers site visitors' questions, he builds on the power of the Lord's Prayer and the 23rd Psalm as guides to living God's government.

Site visitors asked a variety of questions like: How do you keep from getting discouraged and just plain "tuning out" all the political name-calling and lack of conciliation? How can you stay truly engaged spiritually and not be overwhelmed with the issues confronting us? What ideas can you offer on the subject of self-government? How can I better demonstrate self-control and discipline? Any specific advice on how to pray about apocalyptic fears and conspiracy theories that involve The New World Order? How do you define forgiveness?
