A way out of anxiety

Janet Kennedy, C.S.B.

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will we not fear” (Ps. 46:1, 2). With these powerful words, Janet establishes a spiritual foundation for people suffering from anxiety. Noting the capsule devised for the rescue of Chilean miners, she says: “We ourselves may feel like we’re trapped deep in troubles and are looking for a way to be lifted out. We may feel like we need a capsule of God’s love that will take us out of the depths of despair. And there is a way out.”

Citing Mary Baker Eddy’s guidance that we should “cling steadfastly to God and His idea” (Science and Health, p. 495), she goes on to show site visitors how this approach really will free them from anxiety. Emphasizing the importance of getting to know God and His care for each of us, she responds to questions about panic attacks and also how to help someone who is having such an attack. Job-related anxiety, fear of violence, overeating brought on by anxiety, being bullied at work, understanding one’s purpose in life, and financial concerns are among other topics covered.
