At-One With Thee

AT-ONE with Thee, upon the shore of timeWe stand in silent awe, at-one with Thee! And know Love is in all eternityThe only law sublime.

The Swallows' Lesson.

I DEEMED, before mine eyes beheld the light,—When life was young, when I believed the storyOf wise incompetence and darkened sight,—That He, the Lord of love, the God of glory,Was even a tyrant, terrible and gory,Eager to hurl His foolish children hence,As rocks by Cyclops off their promontory,Into the foul abyss of hatred, whenceIs no return, no hope, no prayer, no penitence.

Questions

"WHAT do you think, little thoughtful one,When the firelight flickers low,And shadows o'er the hearth's gray stoneAre flitting to and fro?
In the brave city smiling on the shoreWhich, with its tossing tides, th' Atlantic laves;Where fearless freemen, in the days of yore,—A band intrepid, scorning to be slaves,—Daring the utterance that made them free,Tossed in their splendid scorn to the wild wavesThe symbols of a haughty tyranny—In this brave city, after scores of years,The stately sign of a sublime event,The symbol and prophetic monumentOf men's completer liberty, appearsWith dominating dome against the sky,A witness to this morning century.

"Father, I thank thee."

"FATHER, I thank Thee.

The Call

Across the strands, across the lands, across the waste of      years,— A Voice called low, a Voice called sweet, a Voice spoke to      our fears.
