Gratitude

Like birds that seek in grateful, loving trustSome belfry tower to rest their weary flight,My thoughts on memory's wings fly to the past,Upon its tower of love and truth alight;

To a Friend

How beautiful God's glories are!The blue, blue sky, the silv'ry star,Each budding flow'r, each spreading tree,Breathes of His love for you and me.

This is my work;Mid all the lies to knowJust that Truth is,And all things else but seem;To live the truth, until TruthBlots out the dream!
Fearless stood the young Elihu,Bowing not to time-worn doctrinesProudly stated by his elders;Inspiration pure his weapon,God his every need supplying.

Awake

Clad in the seeming,Life is but dreaming,Sad and obscure;Full of discouragement,Sickness, and punishment,Hard to endure.

Ab Initio

Thou who hast watched the flame of hope burn lowUpon the altar hid within thine heartTill ashes cold and gray as moorland mistThe altar and thine heart alike enfold,And thou did'st rise with senses dulled by painUnspeakable to stumble down the pathInto the valley veiled in mists of doubt;Hear thou the voice of Truth immutable:Pause thou within the shadow of the rockWhile Truth doth break to thee the bread of Life.

Guerdon

Father of lights! Our Father!What shall the guerdon be,For many a grim encounterWith the waves of a surging sea?
