FOREST STILLNESS

The forest stillness ever speaks of GodIn language clear to those with ear attunedTo nature's silent praise, her harmony.

DESIRE

O heart of mine,Put every idle, empty dream away;Let gentle love within my thought hold swayWith power divine.

THE PERFECT DAY

"In the eternal Mind, no night is there,"<em class="footnote d-none" title="*">&lt;em class="footnote d-none" title="*"&gt;Science and Health, &lt;a class="tome-reference" href="https&amp;#x3A;&amp;#x2F;&amp;#x2F;login.

BEYOND THE MISTS

Within the westward, as I gazed, mine eyesA noble peak did many times behold,That to my sense Truth's permanence foretold:Mind's endless reign and error's sure demise; Now, as I look, no mountain doth arise,For see! a dismal fog hath o'er it rolled!Yet know I well, beneath this covering coldUnchanged in all its grandeur still it lies.
How tenderly the dewdrop finds a placeUpon the thirsty violet's drooping face!No fury in its course, no haste, no noiseTo mar the beauty of the flow' ret's poise.

LOVE'S REFLECTION

O wondrous name, yet oft abusedBy those who know not what thou art,So often do we long for loveAnd think it cometh from the heart! This name is freely on the lipsOf men and women, young and old.

HOME

I close my eyes,—No objects can they spy;I lift my feet from earth,Its substance fades away.

DAWN

O Thou whose splendors die not, Thou whose beamQuickens the pulse of worship, and whose graceoverflows when human sense descries the faceOf evening sunlit clouds, or the first gleamBreaks a new dawn which pales the sullied dreamOf night,—speak Thou to us, that we may trace,When emblematic senses interlaceOur thoughts, immortal meanings.

LIVING WATER

I know a wood, dim, quiet, cool,Where many a pleasant hour was spent;Where happy children, free from school,On holiday excursions went.

CAUSE FOR COURAGE

To do, to dare, to brave convention's scorn;Achieving, where the coward dare not tread;Rising as fearless as the light each morn;Attempting that which recreant heart would dread.

PROTECTION

Let one thought guide you through the livelong day,This thought be with you still at candle-time;A starry thought of hope and peace sublime,However dim the path or wild the way.
