In these days when resentment and hatred are much in evidence, obedience to the Master's great correlative to the First Commandment seems to require more attention than ever before; and there has been revealed, and is being disseminated in Christian Science, as if in anticipation of this hour of need, a scientific and demonstrable understanding of love which makes such obedience entirely possible.

"I suppose you have read in the newspapers about the severe earthquake here last Sunday.
When man's spiritual being is understood as the idea of intelligence, or infinite Mind, this understanding dissipates the belief in matter, which until then had obscured the scientific and spiritual facts of existence, and this new understanding brings health and happiness; for the body being only the manifestation of this belief in matter, it follows that the mental change which is produced when the spiritual understanding of being appears, produces a salutary effect on the body.
There is surely no occasion for doubt as to the stand taken by Christian Scientists in the present world conflict, for many months ago The Christian Science Board of Directors of The Mother Church, in Boston, issued a widely published statement to the effect that no one could claim exemption from war service on the ground of being a Christian Scientist.
As a member of one of the so-called evangelical churches of this city, I would like to protest against the spirit of petty denominationalism shown by the lecture which is advertised to be held during this week in one of our leading churches.
