LOVE THAT HEALS THE PAST

GENUINE LOVE IS POWERFUL. That was brought home to me in an unexpected and special way, at the time my husband and I adopted our first child. What I learned and felt then has stayed with me.

But I had begun learning this lesson in love over the years before that adoption took place.

When I was seven years old, my dad, whom I adored, left us. My mother, two older brothers, and I were alone without any support or income. I missed Dad very much, and my mom never said anything critical to change my mind about him. It wasn't until my older brother's plane was lost in World War II that I saw Dad again. I was 13 and felt a strong need to see him. So I took the train to the city, where he and his new wife lived. While I was there, he even took me to his workplace several times, and I truly enjoyed being with him.
