LOVE IS BIG ENOUGH
RECENTLY while out driving, I found myself being passed by a woman in a large luxury car. Ahead, the right lane I was traveling in ended in a wooded copse, and she seemed indifferent to the fact she was running me off the road. Initially, I was annoyed and was inclined to let her know it at the next traffic light.
But I checked that thought, and almost immediately an idea came to me that went something like this: "God is big enough because He/She is infinite and fills all space. No one can be squeezed out, or marginalized, or run off the road within God's allness." I reasoned further that "God is infinite Mind, 'all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, ...' (Science and Health, p. 587). That allness," I thought, "reaches well beyond where I am on Lawyers Road, Fairfax County, Virginia."
My exasperation dissolved almost immediately. I realized that there had actually been ample room for me to stop and not be forced off the road into the oaks and poplars. And I found myself smiling as that spiritual inspiration flooded my thought.
