THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

SPRING TWILIGHT

After a long day of work, instead of rushing home on the freeways, I like to drive through natural settings such as the rolling fields of Valley Forge National Historical Park, near Philadelphia. The expansive views and ever-changing weather and sky patterns help lift my thoughts to the infinitely beautiful nature of God's creation.

One early spring evening I came across this exceptional scene. A huge silvery-bright moon had just cleared the horizon, the deer were grazing contentedly, and the clouds and fields were still enjoying the last rays of sunlight. Tiny buds were forming on otherwise bare branches. I just had to stop and capture the moment on my camera, which I happened to have with me in the car.

My feelings of joy and awe can best be summed up in some lines from one of my favorite hymns: "Dear God, how glorious is Thy name/Through all the earth and sea and sky./The wondrous heavens, Thy handiwork,/The moon and stars hast Thou ordained" (Christian Science Hymnal, No. 45).
