Freed from symptoms of contagious illness
As a lifelong Christian Scientist, I have witnessed the health, protection, and care that come from Christian Science treatment, and I have never been disappointed.
When my daughter was twelve, she attended a summer camp for swimming that was a few hundred miles away from home. One Friday, she called to say she wasn’t feeling well. Although I said I would come get her, she said that the coach’s family had offered her their air-conditioned spare room (as the camp’s air conditioner was broken) and that she wanted to stay. I spoke with the coach’s family, who assured me that all was well and that they would be delighted to have her. I told my daughter that she could stay, but only on the condition that we be very diligent with our prayers. We knew that Christian Science treatment was the best possible care to give.
The family asked how they could help, and I requested that they read to my daughter from the weekly Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly—consisting of passages from the Bible and its corresponding book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy—which they did. Over the weekend, I sang hymns to my daughter over the phone, taking particular comfort in singing Mrs. Eddy’s poem “Mother’s Evening Prayer” (Poems, p. 4), which has been set to music in the Christian Science Hymnal. This poem has always been especially meaningful to me in praying for my children. It conveys the peace, joy, and power of divine Love as the only presence and power, guarding and guiding each of God’s children, big or small, adult or child.
