Tooth trouble gone
One day I woke up and felt pain in one of my teeth and swelling on the side of my face. Immediately I prayed as I had been taught in Christian Science, knowing that I am not a material being made up of blood and bones, who could get sick and swollen, but that I am spiritual and perfect, created and maintained by God.
I knew from experience that I could be healed through prayer, or Christian Science treatment, alone. However, at one point I got discouraged and was tempted to see a dentist about the problem. Yet even then I knew that a dentist would see only a material picture, not seeing my perfect spiritual selfhood. So even though the pain remained, I continued to pray.
I found strength in a statement in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “When the illusion of sickness or sin tempts you, cling steadfastly to God and His idea. Allow nothing but His likeness to abide in your thought. Let neither fear nor doubt overshadow your clear sense and calm trust, that the recognition of life harmonious—as Life eternally is—can destroy any painful sense of, or belief in, that which Life is not. Let Christian Science, instead of corporeal sense, support your understanding of being, and this understanding will supplant error with Truth, replace mortality with immortality, and silence discord with harmony” (p. 495).
