Free from illness
Bearing witness to God’s majesty through giving a testimony of healing is a sacred privilege and joy, and it’s with a full and grateful heart that I share my experience.
While attending a Christian Science Wednesday testimony meeting, I suddenly experienced sharp pains and had trouble breathing. This, along with feeling as if I might pass out, caused me to reach instinctively for a precious book next to me on the pew—Mary Baker Eddy’s Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. I flipped it open at random, knowing this book is filled with healing laws and that anything I opened to could and would heal me. My eyes fell on this passage: “Ah! but Christ, Truth, the spirit of Life and the friend of Mortal Man, can open wide those prison doors and set the captive free” (pp. 433–434).
I recognized this passage from Mrs. Eddy’s allegory of a legal trial of a man who had broken supposed “Health-laws” and was condemned to die in the “Court of Error” (see pp. 430–442). But he was rescued by an attorney, Christian Science, who argued his case in the “Court of Spirit.” The man was healed and freed.
