Faithful dog’s life restored

Many years ago, when I was a new student of Christian Science, I had an experience that truly changed my life. I had a dog who was my faithful companion, and suddenly he began suffering with a great deal of pain and could barely move. I immediately took him to a prestigious veterinary clinic, and for several weeks the team of professionals there did everything they could to help him. But nothing seemed to alleviate my dog’s suffering or heal him of the illness they said was causing a deformation of the spine and paralysis.
Finally, one Friday morning, they told me that there was nothing more they could do. They told me to take the dog home, and suggested that when I felt strong enough, I should come back and have him put to sleep.
I took my dog home and laid him down on a large pillow. I placed water and food next to him. I knew that Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy was a book about healing and that many people had been healed just by reading it. In my sadness I turned to the book for comfort, strength, and understanding of how to face this distressing situation.
