Healed during church service
One day last year I woke up with extreme pain throughout my body, which persisted all day in spite of my prayer and my study of the Christian Science textbooks—the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. At bedtime I listened to the online replay of the Sunday service from The Mother Church (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston). As usual, the First Reader began by saying, “This is a healing service.”
That announcement really got my attention. I hung on to every note, every word, every truth throughout the service. By the time it concluded, I was no longer in pain. That night I slept peacefully and woke the next morning pain-free and rejoicing.
The Mother Church’s outreach to its members worldwide as well as to the rest of humanity is deeply inspiring and blesses one and all. For those of us who do not live close to a branch Church of Christ, Scientist, it is truly a lifeline uniting us to our faith community. I am grateful to the Bible Lesson Committee for the thoughtful prayer and research that go into compiling citations for a cohesive and meaningful Sunday Lesson-Sermon (found in the Christian Science Quarterly) each week. I’m also grateful for the First Reader, who does the same for the weekly Wednesday testimony meeting. I find that these readings often provide healing answers in my life.
