Grill burn quickly healed

I would like to express gratitude for a quick healing. I was grilling hamburgers for friends one evening and went outside to turn the burgers over. There was no light where the grill was, and the grill was closer than I realized. When I went to open the grill, instead of touching the handle, my outstretched hand landed directly on top of the grill. 

The temperature of the grill was 550 degrees Fahrenheit (288 degrees Celsius), and I felt intense pain from the burn. I thought about “the scientific statement of being” from the Christian Science textbook, which begins: “There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 468). Holding to the spiritual fact that matter cannot think or feel, I was able to quickly close my hand and turn the burgers with my other hand. 

I was confident that I could rely solely on God’s goodness for healing. Focusing on the material sensation would attribute to the burn both power and the ability to hurt me. Instead, I acknowledged that I am God’s child, perfect and spiritual, and that nothing can touch me except God’s love. 

Realizing this filled me with joy. When I sat down to eat, I was bursting with gratitude and told my friends how much I appreciated their friendship over the many years we had worked together. They shared many special memories as well. As soon as we began eating, I found that the pain was completely gone. Although I could not freely open and close my hand at that time, I easily ate dinner, cleaned up, and stayed up late making candles with my friends.

When I woke up the next morning, my hand was completely normal. In fact, hours later, I had to finish my candle project, which required me to cut a thick wire with wire cutters. It took all the strength of that same hand to apply enough pressure to cut the wire, and there was no discomfort. It was as if I had never experienced a burn. 

I am so very grateful for the discovery of Christian Science.
