Healing of postpartum depression
A few years ago, my family and I welcomed a second boy to our home following a harmonious and quick birth. I found myself extremely busy, as I was now taking care of a toddler and a newborn. It was a joyful time for our family, and I relied on prayer for managing the many household tasks.
However, shortly after the birth, while I was still on maternity leave, the joy I’d felt in beginning this new chapter of our lives disappeared. I started having various physical problems and became extremely worried about my well-being and general health. Fear started to build. It got to the point where I found it difficult to do simple errands and even attend church services. Taking care of my kids became difficult. I felt mentally lost and deeply sad. I couldn’t seem to understand God’s will and purpose for me.
I defended myself in prayer, knowing that I had a divine right to feel joyous and free. I wasn’t alone and lost in a mist of despair; God was with me. Family and friends were a great support. During moments of fear, I called a Christian Science practitioner for prayerful treatment. During our conversations, the practitioner would share uplifting spiritual truths that brought relief from the mental turmoil.
