Hearing restored

I want to share a wonderful healing I had. Suddenly one morning I couldn’t hear out of one ear. Over more than fifty years, I have had many healings through my study and practice of Christian Science, and I knew that a medical examination would not be helpful. Instead, the demand was to deepen my spiritual understanding. So I endeavored to get a better grasp of the first part of the definition of ears in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Not organs of the so-called corporeal senses, but spiritual understanding” (p. 585). 

I knew that God, Spirit, is All-in-all, which includes His nature as all-hearing. And I knew that I, as God’s offspring, reflect that perfect, unobstructed hearing. Because I don’t exist separately from God, I can’t have my own separate hearing or other faculty, and Spirit’s faculties are not subject to decline, deterioration, or blockage. There was no physical faculty of hearing to fix. True hearing is listening to Christ, God’s message of love and truth to His creation, which speaks to us all through spiritual sense—the ability to hear and understand Him.  

I cherished the spiritual growth gained during this time of prayer. One beautiful idea I heard from God was, “You have never had a moment in matter.” To me, that meant I could have no limitation, no beginning, no material existence. I am, always have been, and always will be wholly spiritual, Godlike, complete.
