Rekindling my love for God

Originally published in Portuguese

When I was in my early forties, I left the religious group I had participated in for 22 years, finding myself disillusioned with religion and on the verge of completely disbelieving the Bible and God.

Then one day in July 2009, I remembered a movie I had watched when I was young starring the actor Jack Lemmon, in which he portrayed a Christian Scientist. Although I had heard the term Christian Science as a child, I hadn’t thought about it until that day, when an intuition—which I now understand to be an angel message from God—made me remember it. This prompted me to start researching this religion on the internet, where I found the website christianscience.com and the address of the Christian Science Reading Room closest to my home. At the time, the nearest location was about two hours away, but I visited anyway. I was very well received by the Reading Room librarian, who answered several questions of mine. I left with the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and other works by Mary Baker Eddy as well as some issues of the Portuguese edition of The Herald of Christian Science.

I gradually overcame the disappointment of my previous experience with religion.
