Peace, be still
When we place Him at the helm of our “ship”—our thinking and our lives—we can be confident, knowing that God, divine Love, leads us safely to shore.
As the news media report on successive waves of COVID-19, we are inundated with stories of devastation. It would be easy to become overwhelmed. We may even be tempted to panic. But within the word overwhelmed is the word helm—which makes me ask, What is at the helm of my thinking?
During times of turmoil, we can consider how Christ Jesus handled crises. Once, in a violent storm, he “rebuked the wind” and said to the waves, “Peace, be still” (Mark 4:39). And Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, once wrote in this magazine, “ ‘Peace, be still!’ our Father is at the helm” (August 3, 1899).
When we understand God as divine Principle, we find disorder turning to harmony. Therefore, when we place Him at the helm of our “ship”—our thinking and our lives—we can be confident, knowing that divine Principle, Love, governs us, guides us, protects us, and leads us safely to shore.
