Heart trouble healed
One day in late winter, when I was a young mother, I began experiencing chest pains, lightheadedness, and fatigue. I immediately began to pray for myself and was able to go about all of my activities at home, church, and work. But the symptoms continued on and off for the next few months.
I was a school teacher at the time, so I had the summer off. Wanting a quiet place to study and pray, I created a study space in our home, and some days spent up to five or six hours at my desk reading the Bible, Mary Baker Eddy’s writings, and other Christian Science literature. My children were away at camp, so I was blessed to have this precious time and to be receiving metaphysical treatment from a Christian Science practitioner.
I was very fearful because my father had passed on early in life with heart disease, and I thought this might be what I was dealing with. I was also worried that I wouldn’t be able to return to teaching in the fall. But gradually, several spiritual truths began taking hold in my thought. One was that any evidence of disease is not truth. Only the information we get from God, our creator, divine Principle and Love, is true, and that’s where I needed to look for evidence of my well-being. In other words, I could be more impressed by what God was telling me and less impressed with the physical symptoms.
