Healed of a burn

I have much appreciation for the teachings of Christ Jesus and Christian Science as discovered by Mary Baker Eddy. The following is an example of the effectiveness of the practice of Christian Science in maintaining health and harmony in our day-to-day experience.

My son was visiting from out of town for a short while, and our plans were to have supper together before he went out for the evening to visit friends. As I was turning pieces of chicken in a pan of oil, some of the hot oil splashed out of the pan and onto the top of my bare foot. My son heard my initial verbal response to the pain, but I assured him that I was fine as I wiped the oil off my foot and the floor.

The pain was intense, but I rebelled at the suggestion that an accident could deprive us of our enjoyment of this right activity and harmonious family time. I declared that there are no accidents in Mind, or God, as Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (see p. 424). As I continued with dinner preparations, I silently prayed, using several passages from Science and Health I had committed to memory: the Lord’s Prayer with its spiritual interpretation (see pp. 16–17), the answer to the question “What is man?” that begins on page 475, and “the scientific statement of being” (p. 468).
