Freed from pain after bicycle accident
I hit the ground with a thud after being knocked off my bicycle by a car that was pulling away from the curb. It was near dusk on a Wednesday in January, and I was on my way to meet a friend for an early dinner followed by church.
The collision and fall left my coat torn, my bicycle lightly damaged, and one side of my body throbbing with pain. The car’s driver asked me if I wanted to call an ambulance. I declined, and after taking some pictures and exchanging contact information with the driver, I gingerly walked away, not wanting to be late to meet my friend.
I drew comfort from a pair of Bible verses from the book of Deuteronomy that were featured in that week’s Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly: “The beloved of the Lord shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.... The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (33:12, 27). Contemplating these ideas brought me freedom from the pain and discomfort and guided my thoughts toward peace and comfort.
