Clear vision restored after eye injury
In late spring I was clearing some brush from the woods where I live, and as I pushed the cuttings into a pile, a dry branch snapped back and struck me in the eye. The initial pain and shock caught me off guard. My first thought was that my eye was seriously injured and my vision could be impaired.
Then I remembered a statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony” (p. 424).
This reassured me that no matter what the situation, I was actually under God’s harmonious government. My fears were calmed, and I was able to continue working. Later, though, the pain and irritation in my eye became overwhelming. I couldn’t work or read, or even think of much else except these alarming sensations.
