Made aware of God’s love

While taking a one-year diploma course in child guidance and family counseling followed by a three-month internship, I was staying at the YWCA Working Women’s Hostel in Chandigarh. I would often notice a sign near the entrance of the YWCA building with these words: “God heals. Listen to live testimonies during Wednesday testimony meeting of Christian Science Society.” I had faith in God and had frequently attended prayer meetings in gurudwaras (places of worship for Sikhs) since my childhood. However, the promise of physical healing through prayer was very attractive to me.

One day in July 2017, I attended the Wednesday testimony meeting to see what it was all about. I stayed for the whole meeting. I didn’t understand much except that everyone who stood up to speak was thanking God. When the meeting was over, one of the members told me more about the Christian Science Society, and that there are Christian Science practitioners who help people through prayer. I took the phone number of a practitioner, fixed an appointment with her, and after our first visit started talking with her regularly.

This path was totally new to me. I had never heard about Christian Science. The practitioner explained many things about what Christian Science is. She told me about the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures written by Mary Baker Eddy. She also explained that we all are children of God, since God is our Father-Mother, and that He loves His children. At that time I was totally unaware of God’s love for me. These words from Science and Health displayed at the front of the church auditorium spoke to me: “Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” (p. 494).
