Prayer for community brings physical healing
I woke up one morning not feeling well, but I was supposed to work in my local Christian Science Reading Room that day. I felt I could still go and serve in the Reading Room, so I went. I knew I was there to serve my community, to offer the healing truth of Christian Science. Whenever I work in the Reading Room, I always make it a point to pray for my community, and to include everyone in my prayers. So although I did need to pray for myself because of my own need for healing, I decided instead to pray for the community, knowing that this would benefit a much wider group of people—and that I would be included in the blessings of this prayer.
The first thought that came to me in prayer for the community was that God is the great Shepherd caring for everyone. Because of this great truth, no one has any real cause to fear anything, but has only cause to express wonderful joy in knowing God’s loving care, which is everyone’s to experience. Lines from a favorite hymn express the idea of this care:
