Infinite possibilities and opportunities—right at hand

When I was a child, my father lost his job well before retirement age when his company downsized. He tried to get a job but was told repeatedly he was a bit “over the hill” to be hired. I was too young to know the details, but we children must have noticed that Daddy was around the house all day.

After several weeks of having nothing much to do, he became quite depressed. Although my father was not a student of Christian Science, my mother suggested to him that he might consider going to see a Christian Science practitioner for help. Feeling desperate, he did just this. The practitioner agreed to help my father through prayer. I, of course, do not know what the practitioner told him, but based on what Christian Science teaches about God and man’s relation to Him, it must have been along the lines of turning his thought of himself from the belief of being a poor mortal without work to the truth of man’s real selfhood as the reflection of infinite Mind, divine Love. It wasn’t long before my dad was led to a satisfying job that continued until he retired.

You might be asking, But how? How can prayer and the practice of Christian Science lead to the resolution of problems, such as the one my father faced?
