Healed of incessant coughing
A while ago I returned from a trip on the Baltic Sea in which I visited nine countries. It was quite rigorous, as we were up early each day going on excursions, and I didn’t have much time for reading or studying the weekly Bible Lesson found in the Christian Science Quarterly.
The day after arriving home, I started feeling ill with cold symptoms and was coughing continually. As I began to pray, I realized that I was blaming myself for losing my “spiritual altitude” over the course of the 11-day trip by neglecting my usual daily prayer and study time.
But I also realized that if I wanted healing, I couldn’t hold on to self-condemnation. As the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, explains, “A mental state of self-condemnation and guilt or a faltering and doubting trust in Truth are unsuitable conditions for healing the sick” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 455).
