Out of ‘autopilot mode’ with Christian Science
When I was sixteen, my mother passed on after a year of facing cancer.
I had grown up with Christian Science in my life. I went to Sunday School every week and even became a member of my local branch Church of Christ, Scientist, when I was thirteen. I loved Christian Science, so when my mother passed on, it took me a while to come to grips with what had happened. She had chosen to receive medical treatment and ultimately didn’t survive. Most of all, I was thoroughly discouraged that she had not been healed through Christian Science.
To make matters worse, my family experienced more turmoil—our house burned down, and my family moved that same year. 2014 was a very difficult year for me. I missed not only my mom but also my friends from my hometown, and I had trouble acclimating to my new school. Even when I got into a great college the next year, I found myself still struggling and feeling like my life had been changed for the worse forever.
