Growth on arm healed
A few years ago, I noticed that a growth on one of my arms that had been there for some time was growing larger. Some coworkers noticed and commented that I should have it checked out.
As a student of Christian Science, I had no desire for a medical diagnosis. Essential to the practice of Christian Science is the spiritualization of thought, which brings healing to the body. A diagnosis based on what the physical senses are reporting would simply be a step in the opposite direction. Instead of looking at my arm to see what was going on, I prayed to understand in a deeper way that I am a spiritual idea made in God’s image and likeness. I made it a point to avoid looking at my arm whenever possible, and instead, worked to keep my thoughts filled with divine Truth.
At the time I was First Reader in my branch Church of Christ, Scientist. One Wednesday evening, one of our Sunday School students gave a testimony about a healing he had while attending a camp run by Christian Scientists. As he shared the details, the boy’s firm trust in God was indisputable, and he explained how, when he realized a healing had taken place, he started jumping around and yelling, “I’m healed, I’m healed!” He was so full of joy about this experience that it filled my heart with pure joy as well.
