I have given the name to all the Christian Science periodicals. The first was The Christian Science Journal, designed to put on record the divine Science of Truth; the second I entitled Sentinel, intended to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love; the third, Der Herold der Christian Science, to proclaim the universal activity and availability of Truth; the next I named Monitor, to spread undivided the Science that operates unspent. The object of the Monitor is to injure no man, but to bless all mankind.

—Mary Baker Eddy, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 353

Why are Christian Science publications available to seekers in Reading Rooms?

In today’s demanding times, people are yearning to find answers to challenging problems. The surety, strength, regeneration, peace, love, and healing that so many are seeking imbue the Christian Science publications. And Christian Science Reading Rooms, warmly acquainting seekers with this family of publications, radiate a beacon of spiritual light in many communities around the globe.

The Christian Science Journal, Sentinel, and Herald magazines contain vibrant expressions of spiritual truth and love—firsthand accounts of verified healings, and articles with genuine glimpses of divine reality, expressing ideas proven to uplift, transform, and heal through the power of God. And The Christian Science Monitor, with its unique news coverage, informs and guides readers in their prayers for the world.

The magazines are intended to record Truth, hold guard over Truth, and proclaim Truth. They show how individuals are turning to this living Truth and putting it into practice through their active study of the Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy.
