Healing of sports injury
Playing the game of squash is something I have been doing for many years. Like racquetball and handball, it is played on an indoor court with racquets a bit smaller than those used in tennis, and a rubber ball the size of a golf ball. Doubles is played with four players, and the doubles ball is hard dense rubber. Because of the high speed the ball can reach during a game, players are required to wear protective eye goggles.
While playing a doubles match one day, I was in the middle of the court with one of my opponents behind me. As I turned my head to follow the ball, I was hit by the ball as it came off my opponent’s racquet at a very high speed. The ball hit my goggles at my right eye.
At that point, several things happened simultaneously. My goggles flew off my head from the force of the impact, and I fell to the ground. My hands came up to my face, the vision in my right eye went black, and I immediately, instinctively said aloud, “I’m fine; I’m OK.”
