Every detail—governed by God
Have you ever heard the joke that asks, “How do you make God laugh?” It’s answered, “Tell Him your plans.” This usually brings a good laugh. However, a number of years ago I learned something deeper about God’s loving control of our experience.
An abrupt change to plans that had been well thought through and laid out for some time left me feeling completely overwhelmed and at a loss about what to do.
Having grown up in a God-loving home, I often heard statements such as these: “God is in the details” and “Wait patiently for His angel messages to direct you.” In the Christian Science Sunday School I had learned that angel messages are “God’s thoughts passing to man” (Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 581); that “with God nothing shall be impossible” (Luke 1:37); and that “God’s will is done” (Mary Alice Dayton, Christian Science Hymnal, Hymn 51). I was taught that God knows our need and will supply the inspiration and guidance necessary for the proper resolution to any problem. And I knew from past experiences that there was an answer to this situation—and that God would help me see the solution.
