Heartache healed after a breakup
In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, we read: “The test of all prayer lies in the answer to these questions: Do we love our neighbor better because of this asking?” (p. 9).
Some years ago, I had an experience that enabled me to love my neighbor better. I experienced an instantaneous healing of a broken heart after a breakup. I was in college and had fallen head over heels for a lovely young lady. It was so wonderful to be with her, and it felt so natural. I spent most of my free hours with her, even choosing not to go out for the swimming team so that I could spend more time with her.
Everything was going beautifully. Then, one night we had a date, and she seemed a little out of sorts. She was quiet and withdrawn. After the date, I walked her back to her college dorm. As we were saying good night, I thought I would ask her if everything was OK. She said it wasn’t and that she didn’t want to date me anymore.
