The right response
Through the years, I’ve often been moved to indignation by public statements and actions I’ve felt were untrue or unfair. This year’s political climate in the United States has seemed to produce more than the usual number of these reactions.
A few weeks ago, my Facebook feed began filling up with caustic posts that I regarded as uninformed, unfair, and unchristian, regarding a particular social issue. So, recently, in spite of my own policy not to post political opinions on Facebook, I felt compelled to respond. I spent hours crafting what I felt was a fair and convincing statement.
But when I finished, it felt wrong to post it. I thought: “This response is really good! Why, then, this feeling that it’s wrong to share it?” I reached out to God for an answer and was led to open my copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures and read where Mary Baker Eddy explains the spiritual significance of “Where art thou?”—the first question the Lord God asked Adam in the garden of Eden.
