Lonely no more
This article was adapted from a podcast on JSH-Online.com.
Once, when I was living in New York City, the opportunity came for me to buy a reduced-price ticket to the Metropolitan Opera to see the lovely opera Romeo and Juliet. This was right around Valentine’s Day, and I was looking forward to this as a special treat.
The night of the opera finally came, and I suddenly found myself very unenthusiastic about going. I was walking toward the Metropolitan Opera House after work but just feeling less and less happy about the evening in front of me. One of the problems was that I needed to eat something before I got there. I hadn’t had any dinner; and of course there were many restaurants to choose from but none of them seemed appealing to me.
I finally realized that the real problem was that I didn’t want to eat alone. In fact, the whole evening suddenly seemed very sad.
