Not governed by hasty decisions
My study of Christian Science has taught me that whenever there’s a problem, all we’re dealing with is thought. I know that when we direct our thought toward understanding our relationship to God instead of being preoccupied with matter, erroneous human situations can adjust. This is what we call healing.
On Thanksgiving Day, I was taking a bubbling, boiling container of gravy out of the microwave oven. The container didn’t have any handles or edges to grip. Instead of using an oven mitt, I grabbed a dish towel and wrapped it around the container of gravy. As I was setting the container on the table, the dish towel slipped, the container tipped, and hot gravy flowed onto my hand.
My first thought was, “Now is the time to prove this Science.” My second thought, “Ideas don’t burn.” In that split-second of need, I turned to God and reversed the claim of injury by rejecting the thought that I am a material being that can be burned. I replaced that notion with the understanding that I am completely and totally spiritual, God’s idea, concept, image, likeness—never separate from, but one with, my Father.
