My first Christian Science healing
One morning when I was lifting a pail full of water, I felt a sudden pang of pain near my backbone. It felt as though I had pulled a muscle by lifting an overload.
At that time, I did not know that Christian Science is a healing religion, or that The First Church of Christ, Scientist, “is designed to be built on the Rock, Christ; even the understanding and demonstration of divine Truth, Life, and Love, healing and saving the world from sin and death; thus to reflect in some degree the Church Universal and Triumphant” (Manual of The Mother Church, p. 19). And I did not yet know that reading Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy could calm, strengthen, and cure me.
So I went to the hospital, but I did not respond to the drugs I was given, and the pain continued. After one week, my brother, who is a Christian Scientist, came to my house. He suggested that I not take the drugs anymore, but read Science and Health instead. I could not believe that reading a book could cure me, but I decided to stop taking the medicine and try it.
