A timeless invitation to healing

The Gospel of John speaks of a pool by the sheep market at Jerusalem, where many people in need of healing waited for the waters to be troubled. They believed that whoever was first to step in after the water was stirred would be cured of whatever disease he or she had.

Seeing a man lying by the pool who had been ill for 38 years, Christ Jesus asked him compassionately, “Wilt thou be made whole?” The man replied that he had no one to help him get into the water. Jesus, knowing God’s ever-present power to heal, responded, “Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.” The Bible declares, “And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked” (see John 5:2–9).
