Room to pray between a rock and a hard place
Several years after I began to study Christian Science, my family was having financial difficulties. During this time, I had Primary class instruction, which was a huge support in my efforts to turn away from a material picture of lack and fear and pray to overcome it.
I had joined my first branch Church of Christ, Scientist, and one of the members told me about a local job opening. It offered a perfect work schedule for me and decent pay. I was hired straight away. That job led to another job offer, which I believed would be a financial step up.
On my first day at this new job, my new boss invited me to lunch. I went. The second day he invited me to lunch again, and I became very uncomfortable. It seemed there was an inappropriate underlying motive to this request. He was married and I was married. I prayed to stay calm and responded in a way that would make my position clear without sounding accusatory. After that he did not ask me again.
