Secure in God’s care
Can we ever be outside of our Father-Mother’s active love? What about when our world feels as though it’s in upheaval? Is prayer practical enough to protect us in the face of “natural disasters”?
When we turn to the Bible, we find that there is a basis for feeling secure in God’s active, eternal care for us, His loved children. In First Kings, we read about the prophet Elijah, who went out into the wilderness. He witnessed great winds, an earthquake, and a fire. The Bible states that God was not part of any of these events. When all of these forces had passed by, it was then that Elijah heard a “still small voice” (19:12). And he heeded this voice, receiving direction on what God-ordained actions he should take.
But was this sense of calm and this “still small voice” for only Elijah to experience? Is consecrated, humble communion with God not very practical for us today?
