Facial growth disappears
Originally written in German, this testimony also appeared in the May 2013 Spanish, French, German, and Portuguese editions of The Herald of Christian Science.
In the spring of 2011, when I lived in Switzerland, I noticed a red spot on my left cheek. I thought it was a mosquito bite and didn’t worry much about it. But the spot enlarged and became uncomfortable. After some weeks, it turned into a small growth. Some people in my apartment building said I should see a dermatologist since this condition could be serious. I didn’t give much importance to this concern, so I didn’t pray about it at first. But when others persistently voiced their concerns, I suddenly became very fearful.
I finally called a Christian Science practitioner, who could help me through prayer. She told me I was a loving idea of perfect, all-harmonious God, and therefore nothing could be inharmonious on my face. She shared many more loving thoughts along the way. At first, I mostly relied on her prayer. Meanwhile, six months passed. When the condition grew worse, I suddenly thought: “I have to do something to contribute to my healing, too. I can’t just lean on the practitioner!” That’s when I began praying more deeply about the condition.
The Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, wrote in her textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “If we follow the command of our Master, ‘Take no thought for your life,’ we shall never depend on bodily conditions, structure, or economy, but we shall be masters of the body, dictate its terms, and form and control it with Truth” (p. 228). At the time, the Christian Science Bible Lesson, which I read every day, included Jesus’ parable: “I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinegrower. He removes every branch in me that bears no fruit. Every branch that bears fruit he prunes to make it bear more fruit” (John 15:1, 2, New Revised Standard Version).
