No more migraines

One of the reasons I have been reluctant to submit this testimony is that it seemed too simple. There wasn’t a lot of metaphysical “process” involved in the healing, although to me it was profound.

In the spring of 1949, I was in my last semester of high school. My father had passed away the year before, and my mother had to go back to work to support my brother and me. I was working a part-time job in the public library and going to school half a day. One day at school I couldn’t see well, and as the day went on, I became ill with a nauseating headache and had to go home to bed.

The headaches started coming often. The sight problem seemed to telegraph that they were coming on. After college, I moved away from home, got married, and my wife and I had two children. The headaches were then occurring at least every month. I had worked with different Christian Science practitioners at different times over the years and had gotten relief through prayer, but it wasn’t permanent.

Then one morning in 1967, I was studying the Christian Science Bible Lesson, and it had the familiar verse from the first chapter of Genesis where it says that God made man in His own image, after His own likeness, and “let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth” (verse 26 ). The thought came to me as a play on words—that God had given me dominion over any “foul” and “creepy” idea that tried to influence me. I know that what God created could never be foul or creepy. I applied this prayerful reasoning to this problem of the headaches and, although I wasn’t experiencing a headache at the time, that was the utter end of them. I haven’t had a headache since then—46 years ago.

Over the years since this healing, the beginning of the blurred vision symptom happened about a dozen times, but I claimed my spiritual dominion each time and the symptom vanished in a few minutes without any discomfort. This also ended years ago.

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy encourages us to, “Meet the incipient stages of disease with as powerful mental opposition as a legislator would employ to defeat the passage of an inhuman law” (p. 390 ).

I’m glad to be sharing this healing, because 46 years is long enough to go without acknowledging it in the Christian Science periodicals.
